The benefits of a new energy efficient boiler

A condensing boiler is responsible for 60% of your household’s energy bills, meaning that it can make a huge difference to your annual bill. Most new boilers are A rated, meaning their efficiency is more than 90%. As for old non-condensing boilers, their efficiency will depend on a number of factors. But typically, a G rated old boiler would be less than 70% efficient and could well fall between 55% – 70% efficient. Depending on what type of gas you use, moving to a more efficient condensing boiler can save you around £200 – £300 each year!

Utilising heating controls with TRVs and a room thermostat allows you to set the temperature in each room separately. When a TRV is turned on, it shuts off its radiator when the air around the valve reaches the desired temperature.

Your local Gas Safe and Accredited installers in Southport

JLC Heating are both Gas Safe registered and accredited installers with Worcester Bosch. This means that you can have complete peace of mind if we are working on your gas appliances at home of business.

For the safety of everyone in your home or business, you should always ensure that your engineer is registered with the gas safety register. Additionally, you should never attempt to work on a gas appliance yourself unless you are properly qualified.

In short, JLC Heating was nothing less than fantastic. It's not often you say that it's a genuine pleasure to have work done, but James and the team were fantastic.

Boiler Types Explained

Combi

A Combination or ‘Combi’ boiler is a high-efficiency water heater and a central heating boiler in a single compact unit. Combi boilers heat water directly from the mains when you turn on a tap so that you won’t need a hot water storage cylinder or a cold water storage tank in the roof space.

Detailed below are the benefits:

  • Perfect for all properties without excessive hot water demand
  • Ideal where there is little or no loft space
  • No need for a hot water cylinder allows increased living space
  • No cold water storage tank frees up a loft for conversion
  • Less pipework in the home makes installation typically cheaper
  • Instant hot water that’s always available
  • Combi boilers can be more compact.

Regular

Regular boilers (sometimes known as traditional, conventional, heat only or back boilers) are ideally suited to homes that already have a traditional heating and hot water system, which is linked to a separate hot water cylinder. These boilers also need a cold water storage tank in the loft to feed the hot water cylinder and a tank that maintains the water level of the central heating system.

Detailed below are the benefits:

  • Perfect for homes where a lot of hot water is used at the same time
  • Ideal where there are two or more bathrooms
  • A good option in areas where water pressure is low
  • Compatible with solar water heating systems for a lower carbon footprint and lower energy costs

System

System boilers require a cylinder for storing hot water. However, the major heating and hot water system components are built into the boiler itself, making it quicker and easier to install. In addition, there is no need for a tank in the loft, so it can be an option in a home with little or no loft space or where the space is earmarked for a conversion.

Detailed below are the benefits:

  • Ideal for homes with more than one bathroom
  • Constant supply of hot water to any number of taps at the same time
  • No need for a loft tank, freeing up space and eliminating worries about leaks or frost damage
  • Economical to run
  • Built-in components make installation quicker and neater.
